How Horny are You?

We live in a nation where scripts like the Kamasutra was born. A country which proudly displays ancient temples like Konark, Khajuraho, Jagdish Mandir, Markandeshwar Shiv temple, Padawali, Virupaksha etc. Kama is one of the pillars of the Indian Mythology and ergo Hinduism, then when did it take a turn for the worse? Somewhere our views have skewed and have taken a perversion of sorts. Kama depicts a lot more than just expression. It establishes the fact that the basic human need to procreate rules. It is one of the most basic desires. Throughout the world, religions has emphasized the importance of sexual/love expression. The list of deities who are the epitome of love have been known and been prayed to. Be it Aphrodite (Greek Goddess), Kamadeva (Hindu god of desire), Venus or Cupid ( Roman mythology) etc. Cultures all over the world have in their folklore symbols of passion, love and fertility.

Ban on porn is a misguided step towards dreaming of a society with high moral value. On one end there are simple things like advertisements that objectify women. Men who deem it their right to harass women and think of many beneath them. Is porn the cause for it?

Fulfilment of desire, a deep seated need, demands a proper channel. Parents in our society are afraid to talk about sex with their children; this is what is wrong with the world. Correct information from a trusted source can only be enlightening. You need to raise children with better moral system and establish trust that they will make the right choice. Explain to them about consequences of their actions. Educate them. Make them respect women. Porn has twisted something as passionate as love selling it at the pretext of lust. Children are not spared in this risky business. I fail to understand this mentality which has made love and lust as synonyms and made the society more perverted. I never ever support any ban or restriction on expression and thoughts because after all what we do, feel and reciprocate is what makes us an individual.

Out of all the articles and news excerpts I read over the past couple of days, I fail to clearly understand the reason behind the ban. Unless it was to make people aware that there are about 800 + porn websites ready to be accessed. No wonder Sunny Leone shifted to Bollywood, a woman’s gut will always guide her. Maybe she had a premonition that porn would be banned soon. (lol).

Good governance is never run with a show of autocratic leadership.  Indian’s have forgotten why they got their independence it seems. A young country like ours needs to address problems at the root level. It needs to remove certain taboo’s and address them in a positive manner. In our country, people are drowning in poverty, faced with religious restrictions, battling the growing economic divide, where does all the frustration go? People rape because they know they may get away with it. Some think it’s normal. There is a different problem in every sect of the population. Banning porn, how did that help? The kind of porn you watch tells a lot about you. You identify and connect with what gives you pleasure. Some intrigue you and some thrill you. They lead a connection to the inner conscious which is closed, may be due to fear or is yet unexplored. It often has a deep rooted psychological truth that is what needs to be tackled. That is the key. For instance, a submissive person in life may want to dominate during sex or a dominant person might just like the thrill his/her power has (calling Freud). That’s the kind of porn that excites him/her. There is always a connect of the subconscious with the kind you like.
